E R Nurse

A fast-paced environment is most likely what you are going to experience if you decide to become an emergency room nurse. If you are employed in a big city, there definitely will not be any time for boredom. No long nights waiting for morning and trying to stay awake. There is always something going on and people to see.

The range of illness and injuries in an emergency room can be almost anything. From a broken arm to a freeway pile-up, there are no limits to what you may see or do on a shift in the emergency room. If this is the type of environment you think you can handle, this may be the career for you.

When it comes to pay for an E R nurse there is no above the board amount that all nurses are paid. Your rate of pay will depend on your experience and where you work. A university hospital or private travel company will pay more than you typically will make in a smaller setting.

Sometimes you can receive more pay and benefits if the area you choose to work in has a high demand for E R nurses. Areas that have been hit hard by disasters are a good place to find higher paying jobs due to people having to relocate and people who want to permanently leave the area. This increases the need for nurses therefore the pay goes up in order to lure more nurses to the area.

One way of ensuring that your services will be more sought after is to specialize in a particular field. Pediatrics, oncology, and caring for the critically ill are all good specialties. These specialties require a little more education than a regular R N who practices in the emergency room. The more education a person has, the better off they are when it comes to getting the pay they deserve.

Do not underestimate the work you will be doing. Long hours and a lot of stress are all part of the routine for an emergency room nurse. While some people do very well in this type of situation, some cannot handle the fast-paced work environment. The real motivator for becoming an emergency room nurse or a nurse in the first place is the desire to help people and make a difference in someone’s life. Especially someone who is ill and needs your help to make his or her life a small bit easier to handle.

Emergency room nurses are going to be in charge of the emergency room when it comes to the other nurses who are working there. They will screen the patients and find out what problem has brought them to the emergency room. Another part of their duties will be to make sure the other nurses are carrying out the duties assigned to them. Assisting the doctor and making sure all his orders are carried out is another set of duties that an emergency room nurse will handle.

If you have reviewed all the options you have and still are set on becoming an emergency room nurse you should find out what requirements you have to have to make your dream come true. You should check out what colleges are offering the courses you need to take and how long you will have to attend before graduating. Many community colleges offer classes for nursing. If you decide to take the step a little further and go for a degree in nursing, it can’t hurt. As mentioned before, specializing in a certain type of nursing can help you also.

Many programs are available for helping with financing your training to become a nurse. Scholarships, grants, and student loans are all options to consider for the money you need to pay for your education. Grants are one way to go because they do not have to be paid back. The same is true for scholarships. They may not pay for everything but a part-time job will cure that. You may get something at a nearby hospital which would be great. Student loans are another option. They will be paid back when you graduate and get a position.

Nursing is one of the most rewarding careers you can choose. There is no other feeling in the world like that special feeling you get when you are the one that is responsible for the care and comfort of a patient. That is one thing you can carry with you for the rest of your life.
