Migraine Relief Through Self-Hypnosis

Even though our brain itself is insensitive to pain, various areas of the skull such as the scalp, face, mouth and throat have pain-sensitive nerve fibers, which can hurt. Headache – or cephalgia – usually means any sort of pain that would appear in one or several of these sensitive areas of the skull.

Headaches can be put into two categories: Primary headaches, such as stress headache, cluster headache and migraine headache, which are not associated with any illness; And Secondary headaches which are due to an illness.

Headaches are the most usual nervous condition. Everyone will suffer from them at some point in their lifetime, but for 55 million people in America, it is a recurring experience. The World Health Organization claims that one adult in 20 suffers from recurrent headaches, with women being more exposed than males.

Headaches can be extremely disabling and might be detrimental to the lives of persons who suffer from them. Work capacity is reduced for those persons, which can negatively affect their financial situation.

The ability to socialize is also lessened as the suffering, or the fear thereof, can make people more tense. Some people with migraine even have to constantly pay attention to the things they eat, the things they see, and even the things they smell, as some strong or unpleasant sensations may trigger pain.

Because headaches are seen as such a banal, benign condition, people who experience them on a regular basis also have to face the incomprehension of other people. This social barrier may also hold people back from trying to get the attention of a doctor and benefiting from the treatment they need. But before it can be treated, a headache has to be “identified”.

We have seen before that there were two particular types of headache: Primary and Secondary, each subdivided into several different subcategories. Their symptoms may vary as well as their causes and, obviously, the way they can be cured. This is why they should to be identified by a practitioner in order to receive appropriate treatment.

Stress headache, also known as tension headache, is the most common kind of primary headache and is responsible for an estimated ninety percent of all headaches. It is usually seen as related to stress or related to muscular and skeletal problems in the neck.

Tension headache is mainly episodic and may persist from a few minutes to a few hours, but may last for several days in the most severe cases. It is commonly described as a strong steady pressure, most commonly on both sides of the head, or spreading around it, sometimes also affecting the neck.

Migraine is somewhat different and is believed to most certainly have a genetic origin. Migraines happen when the brain releases substances that cause pain, that spread to the nerves and vessels of the head. Migraine typically happens once a month and lasts for a few hours, with corollary symptoms such as nausea and intolerance of normal degrees of light and noise.

Cluster headaches usually occur frequently and do not last long. They are also very painful. They occur in clusters of 6 to 12 weeks every one or two years, very often at the same time of the year. The pain is excessively intense and affects all of the head, most often starting in the eye, and then affecting the forehead, nose and mouth. It is much rarer than other sorts of headache and mostly affects the male population.

Headaches are generally cured using over-the-counter analgesic drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol. A doctor could also advise to avoid some usual triggers like noise or some sorts of foods.

Caffeine, Magnesium and Vitamin B2 have also been regarded as useful in the treatment of migraine. Drugs are however expensive and can have negative side effects, particularly for people who have to use them on an everyday basis. This is why you may want to consider a different way of preventing and fighting the various sorts of headache.

NLP and Hypnosis were indeed proven to be effective and will help you to dissipate pain in any part of your body, including the head, as well as becoming more relaxed at the same time. Stress is a very common cause of headache, and adequate hypnotic techniques exist to dissipate both stress and headaches within seconds.

People who suffer from migraine or cluster headache are often able to feel the first symptoms before the migraine really occurs, and could learn self-hypnosis techniques to get rid of them before they hurt too much. Hypnotists who understand how disabling a headache can be have invented these methods.

Hypnotherapy is a drug free method of treatment that will help you to find the relief you were looking for. Headache is a grave condition with several forms, concerning millions of people worldwide. Learn to fight it and to relax with the soothing method of self hypnosis.
