Types Of Acne

There are many type of acne ranging from small little bumps commonly referred to as pimples to large cysts known as Nodulocystic Acne. Not only does acne vary in physical size, it also varies in quantity from person to person, in other words, some people may have only one or two pimples while others may have their entire face or back covered. Another type of acne most often referred to as “whitehead acne” or “Blackhead Acne” occurs somewhere between the small little pimples and large acne cysts. This is the most common for m of the acne experienced by most adults and teenagers. The distinction “whitehead” or “Blackhead” is made from the color of the lesions.

What Causes Whitehead Acne?

As you know, our bodies are covered with tiny little hair follicles or skin pores from which the hair on our face, back, and legs grows. Contained within these hair follicles are little glands known as “sebaceous glands”, which are used by the body to secrete naturally occurring body oil called sebum to keep the skin lubricated. Acne, whether its whitehead or Blackhead is caused by the clogging of skin pores by debris such as dead skin cells, dirt, makeup and ultimately becoming infected with the p-acnes bacteria. Once the infection starts, the skin pores closes and starts to build up with white puss and expand. Over a period of day or so, this process will give birth to Whitehead Acne.

What Causes Blackhead Acne?

The process of blackhead acne formation is nearly identical to the formation of whitehead acne, listed above. However, the difference lays in the fact that with whitehead acne, the skin pore completely closes, but with blackhead acne, the pore remains open at the top. As the material within the skin pores begins to come out, it oxidizes with the air to produce the “black” color. This is how blackhead acne gets its name.

Who Gets Acne?

Traditionally, acne has been classified as a teenage disease primarily because nearly 80% of all teenage boys and girls are likely to suffer from this skin condition. However, it appears that times are changing; the number of adults suffering from acne has been steadily increasing over the past decade. It is now believed that nearly one in four adults is likely to experience acne in adulthood. In fact, this skin condition is so common that nearly 20 million people in the United States suffer from it every year.

How can you treat acne?

Now that you are familiar with what causes acne, let’s take a look at some common acne treatment options. Depending on the severity of your condition, you may need to seek professional medical advice, especially if you have severe Nodulocystic Acne. However if you suffer from minor to moderate case of whitehead or blackhead acne, in most cases this type of acne can be treated with over the counter acne treatments. Look for acne treatments containing Benzoyl peroxide or Salicylic Acid as the main ingredient. You will find different treatments with varying concentration of benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. You will find concentration levels ranging from 2% - 15%. I would highly recommend that start with the lowest concentration and work your way up.

Acne Light Treatment - Light Therapy In Treating Acne

Many adults suffer from recurring acne. Oftentimes, their acne is too stubbornly persistent that creams, washes, or antibiotics that can be bought over the counter no longer work on them.

It was long believed that the ultraviolet (UV) lights of the sun can help improve problematic acne condition. This is true mainly because of the antibacterial benefits from the ultraviolet light spectrum. However, sunlight has been proven to have long-term and much serious skin damage effect, making it unsafe as an acne treatment.

But thanks to advance medical technology that we have today, many treatments are now available to reduce, if not totally cure acne. One of the effective treatments is the use of light therapy.

Acne Light Therapy

Light therapy has been technically and scientifically proven to minimize the extent and severity of acne condition, by destroying the bacteria responsible for acne infections.

Phototherapy or light therapy involves exposure to light with specific wavelengths, by using the following:

1. Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs)

2. Lasers

3. Very bright or Dichroic bulbs

4. Light with full spectrum

5. Fluorescent lamps

It was discovered that a number of the violet (or blue) light visible from the sunlight, within a range of 405 to 420 nanometers, activates the Coproporphyrin III found in the acne-causing bacteria, Propionibacterium acnes. The porphyrin destroys and kills the culprit bacteria as it releases singlet oxygen. An amount of 320 Joules per square centimeter of light in the 405-420 nm range prevents the survival and viability of the bacteria. This portion of the light spectrum, which is outside the sun’s ultraviolet spectrum, produces minimal sunburn or tanning.

Safety of Acne Light Therapy

Application of this blue light for three successive days was proven to reduce the surface skin bacteria by about 99.9%. The artificial light is typically created by using bright LEDs, Dichroic bulbs, or fluorescent lamps. The treatment can be safely used by most acne sufferers, with the exception of those who also suffer from Porphyria. Eye protection, by using eye shields, is crucial because the retina has chemicals that are sensitive to light.

For best outcome, the blue light treatment goes together with the red light application, which activates the very essential energy-transporter, Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), in the cells of the skin. This combination of blue and red light reduces the number of acne spots by approximately 75%.

Phototherapy using a combination of red and blue light has been proven to be very effective in acne treatment, possibly because of its combined anti-inflammatory and antibacterial action. Also, this acne treatment has shown no significant adverse effects.

At home, another form of Phototherapy is used by individuals who have long-term acne condition. They use light boxes as it is generally effective and convenient for them. Such light boxes produce both red and blue light wavelengths and may be used for about 15 minutes every day. It is also way cheaper compared to the light treatments that professional dermatologists use. Phototherapy, as one of the best and effective acne treatments, does not solely cure the symptoms, but the bacterial cause as well.

A Guide To Choosing And Acquiring A Free Glucose Meter

Many Diabetic conditions require monitoring of glucose levels several times each day. A glucose meter monitors your glucose by using a sample of blood that has been placed on a test strip. The test strip, treated with a chemical, causes a reaction in the blood droplet. It is then placed into the meter. Once inside the meter, the method of measurement is determined by the type of machine you use. In some, the glucose will be measured by passing electricity through the blood to determine how much actually passes through. Other types will do so by measuring how much light is reflected from the blood sample.

There are many types of meters available. It is important to know the advantages and disadvantages of each type. Select a meter you are comfortable with. Some meters require more blood than others to perform the test. There are different sizes of meters, as well as differences in price; however, most perform within the same range of accuracy.

Meters are now run by battery and are portable. The downside is the cost of battery replacement.

Most meters have a digital readout. This is a disadvantage for those with sight deficiencies. There are meters available that give verbal reports. Most meters are inexpensive and can be replaced every 2-3 years to ensure accuracy in your equipment. However, the test strips are not interchangeable.

Most systems deliver accurate reports, however, your meter must be properly cared for to maintain accurate readings. Factors such as humidity and temperature can affect readings. If you think this may be a factor review the instructions enclosed for directions of care under your specific circumstances.

A very small amount of blood is required for the test, but before obtaining the blood for the test, the spot that will serve as the test source should be cleaned with a disposable isopropyl alcohol wipe. These are available at most pharmacies. It is important to test a clean area, and equally important that you allow the alcohol to dry before extracting the blood. Once the finger or alternative site is pricked with the lancet, the blood is carefully placed on the test strip. The strip is then placed into the meter.

Some monitoring systems require a sterile lancet to prick your finger. A lancet is very small, usually made of plastic. It holds a very small, needle-like blade for pricking the finger. The amount of blood required for testing will determine the size of the lancet you will need. The smaller the blade, the less it will hurt. There are also pen-shaped lancing devices that will insert the lancet with the press of a button using a spring device. Most people find this less painful than the type of lancets that require you to actually puncture the skin using your own force. You will also need test strips for collecting the blood droplet to be inserted into the glucometer. It is a good idea to use sterile cotton balls to stop the blood flow if necessary. When selecting a monitor you should also compare the prices of the test strips as well. Test strips can be expensive if you do not have insurance.

Most drug manufacturers have an assistance program. The Abbott Patient Assistance Program as well as Roche Diagnostics has a program in place that assists low income families with medical needs. They use the Federal Poverty Guidelines to determine assistance, but in extenuating circumstances will assist patients on Medicare or Medicaid as well.

The Abbott Diabetes Care Patient Assistance Program will assist with both meters and testing strips. Roche will assist with the testing strips only. Most manufacturers list contact phone numbers on product packaging, and can be contacted through this number. Assistance comes in the form of vouchers that can be filled at your local pharmacy. Abbot can be contacted at 1-888-522-5226, or by writing to Abbot Diabetes Care, Inc – 1360 South Loop Road – Alameda, California – 94502. Roche Manufacturing can be contacted at 1-866-441-4090.

Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance plans pay for Diabetic testing equipment. You will be required to obtain a prescription. Your physician will need to write a prescription for the monitor, lancets and alcohol wipes for costs to be covered. Most insurance companies require approval before purchase. Have the pharmacist or medical supply company verify approval before the purchase is completed.

Military Veterans may be eligible for assistance based on their level of disability. Assistance can be determined by contacting your local Veterans Affairs office.

Many medical supply companies offer free monitors if you purchase your strips from them, however, the strips are usually the more costly of the two. Physicians often have samples from pharmaceutical companies. If you need assistance, explain your situation, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

EFT Hacks To Increase Your Income

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a new form of needle-less acupuncture which is changing lives. Suitable for removing negative issues, or improving positive aspects of life, EFT can help with both emotional and physical ailments. Tapping with the fingertips on specific points of meridian channels, discovered thousands of years ago by the Chinese, can help disentangle an emotion or physical sensation from the reaction our energy system has to it.

When it comes to performance issues of any nature, including generating more income, EFT can be applied generally in 2 ways: either on a belief around what we are trying to achieve, or applied to “blocks to abundance”.

To attract anything into your life, you must believe on several levels. You must believe it is possible, i.e. are you following a proven path that someone else already has? You must believe you have the ability, or competence, to achieve your desired income. Do you have the skills and qualifications you need? But, most importantly, you must believe you deserve that level of income. This is the version I see most often with private clients and this is where I want to focus our EFT for maximum results.

Most performance issues are deservingness issues. The stockbroker working for a firm might not believe he deserves to earn $X for his firm. When he reaches a certain internal glass ceiling of earnings he may become anxious, angry, or worried. The associations we have tied in from the past, to excelling or succeeding in life, can stay with us.

To improve your deservingness, begin to think of what memories or associations you may have tied up with the emotions of the current situation in which you’re trying to do better. Make the connection between what specific things you’re seeing, hearing or feeling in the situation you’re having difficulty with, and the situations from the past from which your unconscious mind may have learned what you currently believe. How do you know you’re not good enough to earn $X? Who or what events told you so? If we were to indict some evidentiary experiences here today that caused this belief, what would they be? Sometimes asking friends or relatives about memories from early life can help. Now apply EFT tapping to those memories or associations, e.g. “Even though my teacher said no-one likes a cocky person…” or “Even though someone passed away the last time I…” Sometimes working with an experienced Practitioner along these lines can pay dividends as they can keep track of memories coming up, and help you navigate the session, while you remain focussed “in” the memories for maximum EFT results.

Other blocks to abundance will be other associations we’ve built up along the path of life. What happened the last time you were this successful/ put yourself out there, earned this much, got this much praise, received an award, etc. In what ways might you have learned, on an unconscious level, that success is bad?

Thinking laterally about such learnings, and applying EFT tapping to each will bring relief from the self-sabotage learned by association, and will bring you the income you truly deserve.

Attracting Love With The Law Of Attraction

A question that comes up a lot of the time is how to use the Law of Attraction to attract your perfect mate into your life. A lot of people have already identified the perfect person that they want, whereas others are still searching for that special someone.

The Law of Attraction is more than capable of bringing you a love relationship, but only if you approach it in the right way.

For those of you who have set your targets onto a particular person, there is a high probability that you will not actually attract this specific person into your life. That’s not to say that you don’t have any chance at it, but from what I’ve seen the Law of Attraction is here to match things together. Even if you’re so infatuated with another person, if they’re not in alignment with you then the Law of Attraction will not put you both together.

When you’ve fallen head over heals for someone, hearing the information above doesn’t always sound too helpful to your situation. I’d like to point out, that because you have your attention heavily focussed on love and you’re most likely experiencing the feelings of love, you are actually more likely to attract your perfect mate! You’re in the perfect position to manifest a relationship and anything else for that matter. The love energy circulating throughout your body is a lot stronger than when you are not in love with someone. You can probably feel it! And when you’re energy is amp’d up you’re manifestations occur much quicker.

Regardless of whether you are interested in a specific person at present or you are still searching, here is a powerful technique you can use to bring about your perfect relationship.

First, work out what it is you don’t want. Grab a sheet of paper and make a list of all the things that you really don’t want in a relationship. Then once you’ve done this, write down the polar opposite of your unwanted thing. Congratulations, you’ve just worked out exactly what you want in your ideal relationship! (For more information on working out what it is that you want, please see one of my other articles: Identifying Your Dreams and Desires)

Next you’re going to spend time visualizing. Every time you enter your bathtub and have a nice soak, begin dreaming about your ideal relationship. Imagine walking hand in hand with your lover down the beach. Imagine dining out, taking walks, or talking lightheartedly until the sun comes up. The more involved you can get with this vision – the more energy you are hurling towards your desire and the quicker it will manifest.

See your thoughts like bubbles. Every time you think a thought it turns into a bubble and rises up into the air. This bubble can not be burst or broken. When you think a similar thought to another past thought, the bubbles are attracted to one another and link together to form one larger bubble. This is what is going on with your energy and your thoughts. Your thoughts have more power once you’ve given them your attention for just a little while.

Have fun attracting your perfect partner, and don’t forget to say thank you when he or she shows up unannounced!
